I spent last month talking to Small Business owners across Riyadh, Doha, and Dubai.

Same question every time:

“Show me the AI tools you’re using in your business.”

Out of 43 conversations:

  • 6 use ChatGPT (personally, not in operations)
  • 2 have “AI” as a buzzword on their website (no actual implementation)
  • 0 have AI integrated into their actual business operations

Zero.

Meanwhile, every headline, post, and ad screams:

“GCC becomes AI powerhouse”

“Smart cities transforming the region”

“Digital transformation accelerates”

But here’s what I actually see:

  • A small logistics company in Doha—12 people, doing well, still doing invoices manually. Eight hours every week.
  • A manufacturing SME in Dammam with paper-based inventory. They lose track of $40K in materials annually.
  • A family trading business in Sharjah is managing customer service through three different WhatsApp accounts that don’t sync.

Every single one of these problems has a solution.

Most under $200/month.

But when they share the “affordable” tools recommended by tech Consultants:

❌ Pricing pages that say “Contact sales” (translation: enterprise only)

❌ Interfaces in English only (half their team speaks Arabic primarily)

❌ Setup requiring technical expertise they don’t have

❌ Integration with systems they don’t use

Here’s the truth nobody’s saying:

The Gulf’s AI revolution has a massive blind spot. The GCC is expected to spend $300 billion on AI by 2030.

Yet 98% of our businesses can’t use it.

Here’s the brutal truth about AI in the region:

  • Saudi Arabia has 1.2M #SMEs (99% of all businesses)
  • Qatar’s SMEs employ 80% of the private workforce
  • UAE SMEs contribute 52% to GDP

We’re building for the 1% while the 99% —the actual engine of the local economy—can’t even get in the door. Top #management is celebrating billion-dollar cloud deals in Riyadh and Doha, but the backbone of the economy—the SME—is still running on Excel and WhatsApp.

The AI industry’s dirty secret: Every solution is designed for enterprises with:

  • Dedicated IT teams
  • Clean databases
  • $50K+ implementation budgets
  • English-only interfaces

We’re building skyscrapers while ignoring the foundation.

I’m starting a conversation, not claiming I have all the answers.

Now, I need to know:

  • Are you an SME owner struggling to find affordable AI tools?
  • A developer tired of building only for Fortune 500s?
  • An investor sees this gap but not the solution?
  • A woman entrepreneur navigating this alone?
